Raised Crossmembers for a Ford Ranger

Any body who's driven a lowered Ranger knows they weren't made from factory to be this way. No matter how phat they look. So our job as customizers is to make it work. That's exactly what Altered Altitude's raised crossmember kit does. It replaces the transmission and radius arm crossmembers, raising the scrub line to the frame rather than the stock crossmembers. They also make it possible to do what i think we all wanna do one day, and that's LAY FRAME! I'd like to thank Kevin from Altered Altitude Customs for hookin me up with the kit for a sweet price.
Transmission Crossmember
- Place truck on four level jack stands.
- Support transmission with a floor jack.
- Unbolt factory cross member from frame.
- Unbolt transmission mount from cross member, jack transmission up and remove factory cross member.PIC 1
- Place new cross member in place with both ends resting inside the frame rails.
- Lower transmission down to locate mount. (DO NOT place all of weight on cross member at this time)
- Mark holes and drill 2 -1/2" holes into frame.
- Fasten new cross member to frame with ½" bolts, nuts and lock washers
- Now lower transmission down on to cross member and bolt it on to your new cross member.
Note: It may be necessary to modify your exhaust, or the crossmember itself, for this install. Depending on size of motor on your vehicle.
Radius Arm Crossmember
- Place truck on four level jack stands
- Remove front tires
- Remove trailing arm, nuts, and rubber bushings. (Factory dust cover can be discarded.)
- Loosen front trailing arm bolt and nut. (Front springs may have to be removed.)
- Remove factory cross member bolts located on the bottom of frame. (These bolts will be required for installation.)
- Grind the 2 rivets off that secured factory cross member to frame, then knock rivets out using a punch or drill.
- Repeat for other side.
- Fasten the NEW cross member to frame with the 4 factory bolts and two 3/8 bolts, nuts and lock washers. (supplied)
- Install radius arms back into crossmember.
- Reinstall factory rubber, washer, and nut.
- Tighten radius arm nuts at both ends.
- Reassemble front suspension.
- When finished your undercarrage should look like this. Congratulations! You can now lay frame.
